Welcome to `Anvil Cottage`... an attractive,
well equipped, traditional lakeland stone cottage in the heart of the
English Lake District.
Situated
on the western side of Lake Windermere in the small hamlet of Near Sawrey,
opposite the infamous Tower Bank Arms and Hill Top, which was Beatrix
Potter's former home. The Cottage was featured on the cover of the Potter
book 'The Pie and the Patty Pan' and in her book 'The Fairy Caravan'.
Steeped in local history, the detached double-fronted cottage was originally
the village bakery, and more recently was the well known 'Molly Green's
Tea Rooms.
Accommodation
This ETC graded four star property comprises:
Ground Floor
- entrance porch, living room with original slate flagged floor and
open fire, fully fitted modern kitchen, small utility room, dining room,
and tiled shower room with W.C.
First Floor
- two double bedrooms, third bedroom with bunks and one single bed (sleeping
a maximum of seven) and modern bathroom with W.C.

- attached large single garage, wood and coal stores, rear small enclosed
private garden with parking area, garden furniture.

coal supplied), 28 inch widescreen and flatscreen tv and video with
nicam stereo together with the `Sky family package`, C.D./ stereo Hi
fi, washer/dryer, fridge freezer, microwave, high chair and travel cot,
payphone. Linen provided ( excluding cot). Pets and children very welcome.
No smoking. Oil and electricity are included.

Local amenities/ attractions within easy reach of Anvil Cottage include:

Ideal for the Beatrix Potter enthusiast, with 'Hill Top', her former
Lakeland home, situated opposite the Cottage. The Cottage was regularly
visited by Potter when it was the village bakery, and it is featured
on the front cover of her tale 'The Pie and the Patty Pan' and also
in the 'Fairy Caravan'
- Excellent
local pub and restaurant opposite (only two minutes walk away!)
- Ideal
as a base for walking with many (dog friendly) walks from the doorstep.
- Suitable
for mountain bike enthusiasts with a variety of fell routes in the
vicinity including the Grizedale Forest near Hawkshead (approx 2 miles
away).
Garage provides secure storage facility.
- As
a base for exploring the Southern Lake District, the Cottage is in
a unique position, the popular Bowness and Windermere (via the ferry)
and Hawkshead areas are within two miles - you can also enjoy the
tranquillity of being apart from the crowds. Langdale, Ambleside,
Coniston and Grasmere are all just a short journey away.

The well-known Esthwaite Water, which provides excellent facilities
all year round, is just 10 minutes walk away.

Shop - approximately half a mile away.
Booking/Availability
The cottage is privately owned (and regularly used) by John and Heather
Barber and has been in their family for a long time. It is currently
run by a local agency `Cumbrian Cottages` who deal with bookings on
their behalf.
